Our fourth entry for 'Best XI' comes from a true club legend and arguably Didcot CC's most committed player ever. Dave Allen.
I've been around a while, played a lot of cricket for Didcot and watched the Club become what it is today. I'm very proud of what the Club has achieved.
For my Best XI, I've gone with the best balanced side that I think could compete in the home counties. I haven't included any overseas players and those selected must have played 100 games for the club.
1 Vishane Perera Always need a leftie to open and in my opinion Vishane is the best left handed batsman the club has produced. Always keeps things simple and is a natural run scorer.
2 Paul Oakey The classiest batsman I have seen, his innings in the Steve Dixon Cup Final was possibly the best and most important innings when he scored 124 to win the game. Pure class.
3 Ian Demain Since Ian joined the club, it seems we have been fast tracked to another level. A batsman that everyone else can bat around and would never let you down.
4 Matt Jones As Tina once said, simply the best. Even in this team Matt is the X Factor, with either bat or ball, a match winner.
5 Rob Sessions Rob got in this team because he played for us in the Downs League and is still the club's leading scorer in that competition. Rob lived to play cricket, when he got in he was very difficult to get out. A prolific run scorer in the Cherwell League.
6 Richard Cook (C) Richard is my captain due to the excellent job he is doing currently in the First Team. Consistently performs with bat and ball and has proved he can play at this standard.
7 Simon Pritchard Normally opens the batting, but I think Simon's best position is in the middle order. Very aggressive, could change a game very quickly.
8 Neil Spencer I don't count Cornwall as overseas even though Neil thinks it's a different country! At first I couldn't decide between Neil and Paul Norden (who without doubt was the scariest bowler Didcot has ever produced), but in the end I went for Neil for his all round ability.
9 Julian Hitchman (WK) The position of wicket keeper is the hardest to fill. We have had a number of good keepers. For me you need a wicket keeper to be annoying and I think you will all agree Julian fits that category (!) plus his batting would massively benefit this team.
10 Rob Keat I played a lot of cricket with Rob in his younger days and if you had said then he was going to play for Oxfordshire, I would have laughed. But Rob has improved greatly and I was so pleased when he got selected. Well deserved.
11 Dave Slade Jnr Did most things with a smile, unless you were the opposing batsman. Very aggressive and possibly the quickest bowler that has played for Didcot.
