7. Junior Awards

In addition to the Player of the Year for each age group, our junior section have a number of special awards named after significant people in the History of the club.

Harry Storey
Harry was an aggressive batsman and a skilful bowler. Others were possibly his equal or slightly better in those disciplines. Where nobody could match Harry was his fielding – a combination of athleticism, coordination and bravery meant that any time the ball went in the air near Harry, we’d be confident of a catch being taken. It is therefore fitting that the award in his honour is for Outstanding Fielding by an U15.

Graham Dennie
Graham joined the club when his son Jack took up cricket. A wonderful enthusiast for the game, Graham great skills were administration and fund raising. He was instrumental in identifying the possibility of our use of the Power Station ground as a qualifier for Sportsmatch funding, raising over £10,000 in three years, which allowed the club to purchase more needed equipment (including the bowling machines). Graham emigrated to New Zealand and still umpires, as well as joining the Barmy Army on many England tours.
The Graham Dennie award is given to a stand-out performance by a junior, and goes to a performance that doesn’t contribute to another award.

Adrian ‘Chad’ Chadwick
Chad had played local league cricket for many years before moving to Didcot and joining the club. Chad became well known for his legendary humour. A fine seam bowler, at home in 1st or 2nd teams, he soon became a keen mentor for our junior players as they moved up into the senior cricket. Sadly, shortly after deciding to transfer his job, moving with his wife Shuwen and son Isen to China, he was diagnosed with cancer and died the following year.
The Adrian Chadwick award goes to a junior “champagne moment” in the 4th team.
